As can be expected, this Henle publication is superb. Whilst not quite layflat, the book opens easily and without effort - it will happily behave when on the piano (that is, not trying to close or turn pages on its own, as is common with many publishers today). The fingering is competent and fits the hands well, and for anyone who is unsure about the clef for some pieces, be assured it is all on treble and bass (the melody on alto clef in some urtext versions of the Notebook, but not this Henle version).There are so many pieces here that Henle has decided not to include a thematic index, but BWV numbers are on the contents page and on the first page of each piece. Composer names are only to found on the pieces themselves, not in the contents. There are a few pieces by "Komponist unbekannt" or "Unknown composer".Henle has added a helpful table of interpretations for all the ornaments found in the books. They have also reproduced in facsimile a poem written into the book, as well as two lists of instructions (also in facsimile) for realising figured bass, however Henley has not provided a transcription of these texts, which is irritating to say the least because then players could realise their own figured bass by following the instructions which are specific to this book. The figured bass however has been realised by Siegfried Petrenz and is printed here.Overall though, this is a must have for every pianist. Most of the stuff in here is pretty easy, and this book provides a unique insight into the world of an incredibly musical family - the Bach family. This Henle book has the best and largest selection of pieces (more than the Schirmer and Alfred editions), so is the best buy for anyone who loves Bach, Baroque in general, or just wants to expand their repertoire with these charming pieces. superb sheet music

This is the first G Henle Verlag Urtext edition I have purchased and i am completely impressed. The quality of the printing and binding is superb. I believe the company is noted for the quality of its printing - the music is printed on thick cream paper in jet black ink. The contrast is very good and the printing is very crisp and clear. It is also properly bound - 4 stitched sections glued into a high quality blue cover. It is not 'layflat' but not too far off!Possibly not the cheapest but I do not begrudged a few extra pounds for such quality, especially when it will last many many years.
