The pleasures of gentle hedonism

I recommend this book for all the skeptics and agnostics out there who need a bit of moral support for a more humanitarian and less religious point of view. Plus, how many books are there with chapters about Loafing, Lying in Bed, Smoking and Drinking Tea ? Apart from these Yutang covers moral, philosphical and cultural issues in a very relaxed and entertaining way. The only drawback is that he has some old-fashioned views about women and the family but as the book was originally written in the 1930's we can probably forgive him for that (this doesn't detract from the other good ideas that he has).

wonderful book, cheap printing

Other reviews on Lin's great book have enthused sufficiently about the writing. This comment is for this edition which is only passable: poor quality print from old plates on low-grade paper and rudimentary hard-covers, though it is neatly saddle-stitched. Obviously a limited print-run but still rather over-priced.BEWARE: Amazon sold what they said was a new book but in my copy someone had put crosses against some chapters showing it had been used. Strangely, I haven't been asked to provide seller feed-back on this one.
