Being a complete anorak I have already bought quite a few books on this and related subjects and hesitated to buy this one for some reason, but I wish I had made the commitment sooner. This is truly top of the pile as far as Hot Rod literature goes. Its not just the cars featured that justify the title, but the very classy way they are presented. The photography is absolutley first class, not only in the quality of execution but also some of the unique perspectives used. It is also great to be able to read the refreshingly honest interviews and comments from the builders themselves, sometimes giving a surprising insight into their mindset and emphasising their individuality as it does not cover just one style but delves into all corners of the genre. Doubtless some of you thinking about buying this book are well aware of the "Rodders Journal", well regard this as a book to the same high standard,The only other book I have which comes (pretty) close is ; American Hot Rod: The Fine Art of the Custom Hot Rod.This book is something which can be re-visited time after time and never dissapoints. If you only own one hot rod book, make it this one.

I bought this as a present for my boyfriend and both he and I are delighted with this book. It shows many beautiful cars and gives lots of background info on their creators. It is an inspirational book for anyone interested in customising an old car. These cars are truly works of art.

I received this as a surprise christmas present from my wife (who admitted being swayed by the reviews here), and all I can say is if you're in the same position then don't hesitate - buy it! It's a fantastic book full of great pictures, catering for all tastes, with a broad range of hi-tech, old school, etc, & focuses on some of the lesser known (to me anyway) rod shops.I can (and do) pore over it time and time again. If you looking at half built projects & stuff in bare metal flicks your switch then there's that too.My only (very minor) criticism is occasionally some of the chapter text refers to vehicles built by the shop in question that then don't appear pictorially. All in all one of my favourite christmas presents & if there is a follow up I wouldn't hesitiate to buy it.Go on you know you want it!
